USB Flash Drive

There was a time in the past when people used floopy disks to transfer files from one computer to another. Writing and reading files using floopy disks proved to be very slow. In addition, the floppy disk could only store up to 1.44MB (megabytes) of data. This became a problem when people needed to transfer larger files.

Then came the invention of the USB flash drive. A USB flash drive refers to a data storage device which uses a type of memory called flash memory. This device uses a Universal Serial Bus (USB) as a connector to other devices.

The first commercial USB drive in the market was 8MB in size. This was equivalent to 5 floppy disks at the time. Today, you can find USB flash drives that are as large as 512GB! The size of these flash drives keep increasing  as the demand to store and transfer more and bigger files become more apparent.

Food for Thought :

Technology keeps reinventing itself. As our needs change new technology will be needed to meet this change.
