Paper Umbrella

In ancient times, rainy and hot summer days interfered with people’s daily lives. They had to either stay at home or find shelter during these seasons. Lu Ban, as told in a legend in China, had built many shelters in his neighbourhood for public use. However, people were still unable to participate in outdoor activities during stormy seasons.

Lu Bab’s wife came up with an idea with reference to her husband’s shelters. She used oil paper and bamboo to make a light and easy to carry small shelter, known as a paper umbrella. She told Lu Ban: the shelter that you built is not moveable, but mine is a mobile shelter providing protection to people for all seasons, rain or shine.

Demands is the source of innovation and invention; imagination is also needed in problem solving processes.
