This will vary according to the
medical curriculum in the various medical schools. Some amounts of core knowledge
needs to be acquired to become a safe doctor.
A postgraduate student in her Masters of Ophthalmology training wanted
to give up her studies after failing one exam, which requires her to repeat the
subjects in six months time. I persuaded her to persevere and asked her to grit
her teeth and sudy for the next exam. Thankfully, she passed all her subsequent
exams without any problem. Currently, she is heading one of the eye departments
in the country serving the nation. It is her perseverance that leads to this
well sought-after position.
