Hair Dryer

A hair dryer is a gadget used to dry wet hair. It functions by blowing hot air or cool air that causes the water in our hair to evaporate and therefore dries the hair. The dryer is an electromachanical gadget that utilises the technology taken from a combination of electrical and mechanical engineering.

Hair dryers are usually used to dry wet hair but they are also used to create more volume and to style the hair which can be futher improved by using hairstyling products like hair sprays and by using hair brushes during the drying process to add tension and lift to the hair.

The vacuum cleaner was used to dry the   hair before hair dryers were invented . In 1890, Alexander Godefroy invented the hair dryer bassed on the idea taken from vacuum cleaners. However, his hair dryer was not a hard-held one. His hair dryer was used in his hair salon by having the person seated under a hard plastic, dome that was fitted over the person’s head with hot air blowing through tiny holes in the dome.

Gabriel Kazanjian, who is an inventor from America, submitted a patent for the first hair dryer in 1911, The handheld version of the hair dryer was first marketed in 1915 but the hair dryers at that time were heavy with the tendency to overheat. In 1920, the first handheld household hairdryer was invented. With better electrical motors and improvement of plastics in the 1960s, hair dryers became lighter and safer. Many electrical companies today produce good hair dryers that are more portable, safer and lighter.

Food for Thought :

The vacuum cleaner inspired the invention of the hair dryer. Sometimes innovative ideas arise from studying things that we use every day but we find ways to think about how to improve and make things better for others uses.
