Chapter 2 : Getting ahead of time ( 3 )

Should I involve myself in many co-curricular activities?

Yes, you should, provided it does not interfere with your studies.Joining various societies will help your shape your personality. It will also make you treasure your time even more. Through co-curricular activities, you have the opportunity to gain valuable experience and meet new people.

However, if you find that you have difficulty in understanding your subjects and require extra effort to achive your target, then it is not advisable to be involved in a big way in any organization. It may be sufficient to be an ordinary member. Don’t take on more responsibility than you can manage.

Choose your co-curricular activities well. Participating in co-curricular activities can help you develop the right side of your brain, enhance your creativity and make you a multi-skilled person. However, it has to be done in moderation and make sure that the time spent on co-curricular activities does not exceed your main task of studying medicine. There has to be a balance between academic and other activities.

From my experience, limited amount of involvement in societies is good enough. As medicine is a serious subject, there is no replacement for hard work.

People who make the worst use of their time are the same people who complaint that there is never enough time.
