How can one be creative with handkerchiefs and create commercial value from
it?
In Tokyo, Japan, shops are everywhere to be seen. Their existence is often
associated with their own unique way of doing business. There was one shop, ran
by an old couple, which sold only handkerchiefs. At that time, handkerchiefs
sold in supermarket were of a variety of attractive colours and designs. The
couple found it hard to beat the competition, and this threatened their
business and made them very worried.
One day, the husband was sitting in front of the shop looking at people
passing by. Facing those pedestrians who were wearing colourful clothes, he
suddenly had an idea and he mumbled. Tour guide maps, we can print tour guide
map!. The wife was shocked and said, Are we changing business? The old man
explained, No, no, we can print pictures of flowers, birds and waters on
handkerchiefs, but why can’t we print maps? Handkerchiefs with a dual purpose
will definitely attract visitors! Hence, the old couple immediately requested
their printing factory to print some of Tokyo’s road maps and interesting
places on their handkerchiefs and business was indeed good. Hey managed to
survive.
