8.1 How do I overcome inferiority complex?
First and foremost, remember that
everybody is created equal and is the same in the eyes of God. This is the
teaching in all major religions. Your lecturers are not superior to you. They
are just born earlier than you so they have the benefit of having more
experience.
You must acquire this mindset so
that you can overcome the intimidation that you may feel facing your very
senior lecturers such as the lecturers and senior consultants in the clinical
years. Lecturers have had many years behind them, and so it is all right if you
are not as good as them.
Even if your English is not very
good, go on and speak in English because the only way to learn a language is to
continue practicing it.
Poor command of English is one of
the most common reasons of inferiority complex faced by students in local
universities.
Only God is great and no man is
superior to another. We are brought to this world with different roles and
achievements. Each of us has our own potential and our ceiling of achievement.
What is important is that we all work to achive the best that we could with
what is given to us.
Once we are awed only by the
greatness of God, other humans or worldly things will not fascinate us. This
can prevent the feelings of jealousy towards others who have achieved more than
we do. It is important to realise that you only strive for the life. Hereafter
rather than the current tempory life which no one has any control of as to the
duration, which is all in the hand of God.
No one has the right to harass or look down upon anybody else.
Humbleness is important to be instilled in whatever stage of your life
especially so when you climb higher in the ladder of life. A good way to have
this humbleness is to train oneself to do things like cleaning the toilet,
eating on the floor and make friends with the poor rather than the rich.
