The three important aspects that
determine the achievement of a person in life are :
i. Attitude
ii. Knowledge
iii. Skills
Among these three assets, the
most important one that acts as the determinant is the attitude. The correct
attitude will ensure adequate acquisition of knowledge and skills.
i. Attitude
1. Enthusiastic
Enthusiastic individuals will end
up getting what they want in the end. Their enthusiasm will drive them to go
for their goals. Their enthusiastic
spirit will also have an effect on the people around them. Such
individuals will have positive effects on people around them such as their
friends and colleagues in their career as a doctor.

2. Passion in studies and work
This means that they are very
proud of their work and will be fully involved in whatever they do to push
their career pathway ahead. This passion for knowledge acquisition will result
in constant motivation to work hard. Students are likely to practice ‘eat,
drink and sleep’ medicine and not ‘eat, drink and sleep’ football.
3. Proactive
Students are likely to be
independent in their effort to acquire knowledge. They will know exactly what
to do to achieve their academic goals
4. Motivated
This constant inner drive is
important as the study period in medicine can be long and laborious. It will be
filled with a lot of hard work and heartaches at times when the subjects is
difficult. However, if one is motivated, whatever adverse feeling one has can
be overcome easily.
This is one of the most important
assets to have in order to last in the medical field, which requires one to
continuously educate and develop oneself professionally.
5. Adaptive
This is the ability to adapt to
one’s surrounding and working environment. Medical students come from various
backgrounds and so do the patients that they deal with interacting with
patients of different socio-economic status might be difficult as they have
different levels of knowledge and expectations. Hence being adaptive will make
life much easier for them.
