(A simple approach to
measure)
One day, Thomas Edison, passed a light bulb to his assistant, Upton a
graduate of the Department of Mathematics at Princeton University. He asked
Upton to calculate the volume of the light bulb. Upton picked up the light bulb
and stared at it for a long time.
He kept measuring the light bulb by tape from left to right, top to bottom.
He did not stop sketching diagrams, and the papers were filled with formulae but still did not
produce any answers.
Edison saw this poor guy and said, Upton,
why don’t you try it this way? He filled the light bulb with water and
passed it to Upton.Pour the water into
the measuring cup, and the volume of the water will be equal to the volume of
the light bulb, Edison said
Food for Thought :
In our learning processes of
technologies, theory and practice must be combined together. Imagination and
creativity are essential in problem solving.
